  1. NY Times appears to have confirmed Axios’ scoop. I try not to report on anything Axios says without secondary confirmation.

Politically, the timing of this resignation post-Kavanaugh, post a truly wtf September, has salience. Haley fits the profile of the college educated woman with whom many suburban Republicans can identify. If she jumps ship at this particular time, it sends a pretty clear message to GOP leaning female voters that maybe they should vote with team Blue or just not vote GOP this year.

Haley is no big loss. She was a Trump enabler. I can’t think of one bad thing that she helped stop.

Having said all of this, I know a lot of us mock these anti-Trump Republicans who seem to have finally discovered just how bad the GOP is after having blinders on for decades, but the ‘better late than never’ crowd has been politically impactful to date, as the Dems’ wave is built in suburban America, with more white women picking Team Blue and working to get Democrats elected. These women have also been talking to their GOP leaning friends and have changed perspectives in white America. For me, from reading the polls since the beginning of this election cycle, the most remarkable trend has been the apparent incremental increase in white voter support for Democrats. That completely blows up gerrymandering and it fundamentally changes the country. We need to cash in on what the polls have been saying about the support for Democrats from white women, the incremental increases in overall white support in the South (particularly suburbs), the increases in young white voter support for Dems and deliver results at the ballot box. If we do that this November, we will have put this country on a trajectory for significant positive change.

  2. …for one last fondle farewell.
