Rep. Tony Cárdenas’ (D-CA) district director in Panorama City, Calif., was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury, Roll Call reported on Tuesday.
Gabriela Marquez officially notified the House last week.
“This is to notify you, pursuant to Rule VIII of the Rules of the House of Representatives, that I have received a grand jury subpoena issued by the United States District Court for the Central District of California,” Marquez wrote to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), according to the Congressional Record.
Citing “sources in California,” CQ Roll Call reported that “the FBI spent a few hours interviewing Marquez in her home roughly three weeks ago, asking questions about whether staffers in Cárdenas’ office worked on campaign-related activities while being paid for official office time.”
Cardenas’ office did not have a comment on the subpoena.
Correction: This post has been updated to reflect that CQ Roll Call reported that Marquez was questioned about whether staffers in Cárdenas’ office worked on campaign-related activities, not on Cárdenas’ campaign specifically. The original version of this post also incorrectly stated that Cárdenas has an office in Panama City. The office is in Panorama City. We regret the errors.
Well, if they did it then, FAIL FAIL FAIL DUMBASS. If not, then I’d like to know what we can do about charging the accuser with something.
While against the law, it happens pretty regularly.
I was wondering about that Panama City in the earlier version ….
I just moved from Washington Heights (Rangel’s district) to North Hills, Cárdenas. Even if Cárdenas is guilty it was still an ethical step up for me.
