A woman in the town of Craigsville, Va. made a costume for her 7-year-old son to dress as a member of the Ku Klux Klan for Halloween.
The boy’s costume drew the attention of a local news station, WHSV, after pictures of it were posted on Facebook. In an interview with WHSV posted online Monday the woman, Jessica Black, said her son was not the first member of her family to wear a klansman costume.
“My brother has when he was in Kindergarten and when he was 13,” Black said.
Black also defended the practices of the Klan in general.
“It’s supposed to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that. That’s what the KKK stands for. The KKK every year, raises money to donate to the St. Jude’s,” said Black.
Black claimed her son got the idea for the costume from the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes.” She also said she warned him there might be “people saying bad things about you” when he wore the costume. For his part, Black’s son said he thought the costume was “cool.”
