Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) won the Wisconsin primary Tuesday night, according to projections from NBC and Fox News.

The hard-won victory in the winner-take-all primary, where there are 42 delegates up for grabs, puts a damper on rival Donald Trump’s significant delegate lead.

Cruz has campaigned heavily in the Badger State, taking to the trail with Gov. Scott Walker (R), a former contender in the 2016 race who endorsed the Texas senator last week.

Cruz’s Wisconsin strategy focused primarily on Trump, but he also launched his first attack ad against Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) in the state, indicating the importance of a Wisconsin win.

TPM’s PollTracker Average showed Trump leading in Wisconsin with 38.5 percent support, Cruz at 36.2 percent, and Kasich at 22 percent.
