Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump’s chief strategist, considered leaving the White House due to disagreements with Jared Kushner, Politico reported late Wednesday citing a senior administration official and other “sources close to the President.”

Rebekah Mercer, a top Republican donor and Trump supporter, convinced Bannon to remain at the White House, according to Politico. Bannon had “complained that Kushner and his allies are trying to undermine his populist approach,” per Politico.

Bannon was also unhappy with the decision to remove him from the National Security Council’s Principals Committee and threatened to resign over the move, according to Politico.

The White House denied to Politico that Bannon had considered resigning.
