For a first-time congressional candidate whose campaign has so far been dominated by his past as a live-action vampire role-player, going on “The Colbert Report” to make light of the situation might not be the best move.
Stephen Colbert brought Jake Rush, an attorney challenging Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL), onto the show Thursday for his “Better Know A Challenger” segment. The comedian showed up to the interview ready to role-play in full vampire regalia, but Rush — who went by “Chazz Darling” during his LARPing days — wasn’t game.
So instead Colbert engaged Rush on issues like overseas military intervention, which Yoho opposes. Asked whether the U.S. should have invaded Iraq twice, Rush demurred.
“Stephen, the problem with — well — I don’t know, wars are complicated,” he answered.
Colbert almost wringed Rush’s position on marriage equality out of him, too, before the role-playing enthusiast gently reminded him that a “thesbian” is an actor.

Saw this. Excruciating and deeply satisfying. Anybody who brags about successful enactment of Stand Your Ground law deserves to be humiliated in the most public way possible. Colbert did right.
Perfect description: excruciating and deeply satisfying. I was laughing while covering my eyes. It should go down in the annals as one of his best interviews ever. And that last line. Oh my dear god. While referring to the gun, Rush says, “It’s just a tool,” and Colbert responds “Just like so many people.” God, that was genius.
Nukes are only tools too. Why am I not allowed to own one?
In a manner of speaking, as a U.S. taxpayer, you currently own 5,113 warheads.
Does he think Benghazi is sucking the blood out of the House of Representatives or American foreign policy?
BENGHAZI!
