Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) on Sunday said that a grand bargain is not possible in divided government, despite their ability to reach a small budget compromise.
“I don’t think with this President or this Senate, we’re going to have something like that,” Ryan said on “Fox News Sunday.” “We’re going to to have to win the Senate, and we’re going to have to win the White House to truly fix this country’s fiscal problems.”
Murray agreed with Ryan that it was not possible now, but she was hopeful that the small budget deal was a step in the right direction.
“I think the grand bargain that puts everything and a whole lot of votes on the table is impossible to find at this point,” she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “But I do think we can take steps toward a point where we deal with those tougher issues.”
