Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) said Wednesday that he heard reports about people cheering the 9/11 terror attacks, but didn’t see it for himself.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently said that he saw thousands of people in New Jersey “cheering” on 9/11 as the Twin Towers fell, a recollection that had no basis in fact. It prompted a response from other Republican presidential candidates including Dr. Ben Carson, who said that he saw people cheering too before retracting that comment, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who said he didn’t recall the cheering.
Giuliani, who was mayor of New York during 9/11, addressed Trump’s comments during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“Well, look, as you know I was deeply involved in it,” Giuliani said. “I heard reports of such things in New Jersey, in New York. I didn’t see it.”
He added that he didn’t see news reports at the time of the alleged celebrations, either.
