Reuters/Ipsos: Romney Leads Obama By One

A new poll of the possible Presidential matchups shows President Barack Obama down by one to former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney in a nationwide survey, despite the fact that Obama’s job approval is on the rise. Businessman Herman Cain down five points to Obama and Texas Gov. Rick Perry six. On the Congressional side, Reuters/Ipsos finds a five point advantage for Democrats on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

From Reuters:

Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said the signs pointed to a close 2012 election.

“Romney, and the Republican field generally, are becoming more well-known to the American electorate, and I think we are going to see this narrow gap now between the Republican front-runners and Obama going forward,” she said.

“It’s essential that Obama retain these high approval ratings,” she said.
