A new Pew Research poll shows President Obama with a five point lead on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, despite being down by ten points with independent voters. Romney is also viewed unfavorably by the national population in the poll, with only 33 percent seeing him positively and 47 percent negatively.

“Mitt Romney’s gains in the GOP horserace have not been accompanied by an improvement in his personal image,” Pew wrote. “Among all voters, his favorability rating has slipped since November, from 38% to 33%. That is primarily because of a decline among Democratic voters (from 25% then to 14% today).”

Romney’s national favorability has been trending fairly evenly throughout the campaign, but lately he’s seen an uptick in her personal favorability rating in our TPM Poll Average.
