President Barack Obama on Tuesday will meet with business leaders to “discuss the importance of taking action to pass commonsense immigration reform to bolster US economic growth,” the White House said.
The meeting, which Vice President Joe Biden is also expected to attend, is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET.
Since the government shutdown and debt crisis each came to an end last month, Obama has renewed his focus on overhauling the nation’s immigration system.
But the prospects for the Senate-passed immigration reform bill have been shrouded in uncertainty in GOP-controlled House. The reform effort drew a boost recently when three House Republicans signed on to support a bill being pushed by House Democrats.
