Watch Obama & David Simon Talk ‘The Wire’ And The War On Drugs

President Obama recently interviewed HBO’s “The Wire” creator David Simon about the show and Simon’s view on how drugs impact cities like Baltimore.

“I’m a huge fan of ‘The Wire.’ I think it’s one of the greatest, not just television shows, but pieces of art in the last couple of decades,” Obama began the interview published by the White House on Thursday.

The two discussed American drug policies, which Simon called “draconian.”

“What drugs don’t destroy, the war against them is ripping apart,” Simon said.

Obama noted that some lawmakers have started changing their minds on drug policy in the country.

“Here’s the good news, there is a increasing realization on the left, but also on the right, politically that what we’re doing is counterproductive,” he said.

Obama also revealed that Omar was his favorite character on “The Wire.”

  1. The timing of this discussion is interesting. I expect some announcement from the White House on this issue soon. And it’s about time.

  2. Well, that’s how these things work. As Obama’s said some number of times, he sees being president as like being on the officer’s deck of a super massive ocean-going ship: big moves get started by small deliberate measures.

  3. You know, conservatives can bitch and moan and scream all they want about the terrorist, Muslim, black, usurper, blah, blah, blah in the White House, but in what world could a George W. (MISS ME YET!!!) even begin to enter into a conversation like this on any subject?

Just think what this country could be if adults were in charge?

Anyway, great conversation. Food for thought. In other words, FOX will never report on this.
