At a Monday news briefing, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that President Barack Obama remains confident in Hillary Clinton’s ability to meet the demands of the presidency after her campaign belatedly disclosed a pneumonia diagnosis.
Obama’s confidence in Clinton’s ability to succeed him has not changed, Earnest said, according to an Associated Press report.
“I think those are entirely legitimate questions,” Earnest said with regard to questions about the nominees’ health. “But how they’re answered is something that the individual candidates have to decide for themselves.”
The Clinton campaign revealed that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia Friday, after Clinton left a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony early, prompting wild speculation about the state of her health.
On Monday, the campaign said that it would release “additional information” about Clinton’s health in order to “put to rest any lingering concerns.”
