Fox News host Bill O’Reilly on Wednesday night said that the Army’s decision to charge Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl with desertion was an “acute embarrassment for President Obama.”

O’Reilly, who questioned the prisoner swap that brought Bergdahl back to the U.S. after he was held by the Taliban for five years, warned viewers that the five Taliban members released will soon be “free to return to the Afghan battlefield and free to kill Americans if they can.”

“From the beginning, many Americans thought the deal was bad for the country, but the president and his acolytes disagreed,” O’Reilly said.

“If you are a supporter of administration, what do you say now? What do you say?” he asked. “It is long past time for Americans to stop the ideological nonsense and see things for what they really are.”

As the Washington Post noted, O’Reilly reported in January that the Army would charge Bergdahl with desertion, though the Army denied the report at the time.
