Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) released a new ad Thursday in his bid for John Kerry’s Senate seat, touting his record on a range of issues important to women, including equal pay for equal work. The ad is being released in concert with 15 “Women for Markey” events in Massachusetts.

The ad begins with a picture of a young girl jumping in the air, then a woman running on a dirt road. “How high can she soar? How far can she go?” two narrators says in the ad. “Women earn only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. Ed Markey knows that’s wrong.”

The ad goes on to tout Markey’s work on equal pay legislation. The ad also touts his support of the health care law’s provision to cover women’s reproductive care. At the end of the ad, Markey says he is proud to have the endorsements of Planned Parenthood and NARAL.

Markey is facing off against primary challenger Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA), who has said recently that he does not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned even though he is pro-life.
