An Inman, S.C. man claims that his friend accidentally shot him in the head and then failed to call 911, Fox Carolina reported Tuesday.

John Philip Thompson’s handgun discharged while he was showing it to Michael Burdette, who told Fox Carolina that Thompson just gave him a towel for his head wound and eventually called his wife to take him to the hospital. Two other people at the scene also failed to call an ambulance, according to Fox.

Thompson was arrested for possession of a deadly weapon by a convicted felon, which Burdette believes is why Thompson did not want to call for help.

Thompson has been released on bond from a local jail, according to Fox.

Burdette’s family told Fox they plan to sue Thompson.
