Bill Maher enthusiastically affirmed Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) preparedness to serve as commander in chief on Friday night’s episode of “Real Time.”
Asked by MSNBC host Alex Wagner if his foreign policy chops were up to snuff, Maher responded, “Fuck yeah! The guy who voted right on the Iraq war? Yeah, I do.”
Maher endorsed Sanders’ candidacy back in October, praising the Democratic candidate’s promise to bolster the social safety net and reform the campaign finance system. During Friday’s panel, he expressed frustration with Democratic voters who don’t see Sanders as electable in a general election contest.
“I think the rules are out the window ‘til proven otherwise. We may revert back to politics as usual but until we do, doesn’t Bernie deserve the people who say, ‘Oh I like Bernie but he can’t be elected’ to shut up?”
