Karen Handel, the former Republican secretary of state in Georgia who found herself at the center of last year’s flap involving Planned Parenthood and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, announced Friday that she will run in the state’s open U.S. Senate race next year, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Handel joins a GOP field that already includes Reps. Jack Kingston (R-GA), Paul Broun (R-GA) and Phil Gingrey (R-GA). In 2012, she quit her executive job at Susan G. Komen when the organization opted not to break ties with Planned Parenthood.
