Jon Stewart offered his take Thursday on the much-discussed New York Times op-ed piece by Vladimir Putin.
Stewart started by offering a little advice to the Russian president: know your audience.
“First of all, New York Times? That’s how you reach out to Americans? You’re not familiar with Buzzfeed or — I don’t know — ‘Duck Dynasty’ maybe?” Stewart said.
But while “The Daily Show” host acknowledged the legitimate criticisms of military intervention in Syria, Putin’s repudiation of “American exceptionalism” was a step too far.
“You want us to go ‘Rocky IV’ on your ass? ‘Cause yeah, okay, you might have the superior training, facilities, you might have the superior body type, but you picked a fight in The New York Times op-ed page,” Stewart said before imagining a battle between Putin and the mainstays on the Times’ opinion page.
“You may take down Krugman, but Dowd will be right behind you with a cutting and unfavorable comparison between you and, let’s say, McDreamy from ‘Grey’s Anatomy,'” Stewart said.
