Viewers of “The Daily Show” were dealt a surprise at the beginning of Thursday’s broadcast when Jon Stewart placed a call via Skype to interim host John Oliver.
On hiatus this summer to film a movie in the Middle East, Stewart first made a point to address his newfound facial hair.
“I didn’t grow it. When you get off the plane in the Middle East, they give it to you like the Hawaiians give you a lei,” Stewart said.
Although he said Oliver has been “doing a phenomenal job” in his absence, Stewart admitted that it’s been a bit awkward to watch the program he’s hosted since 1999.
“It’s like watching someone have sex with your wife’s desk,” Stewart joked.
