Jon Stewart appeared genuinely frightened by a freewheeling House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) on Monday night’s edition of “The Daily Show.”

The host was baffled by the GOP’s ongoing dance to potentially shut down the Department of Homeland Security unless the Obama administration undoes its executive action on immigration.

“So to stop the President from being too lenient on illegal immigration, you want to defund the department that secures the border?” Stewart asked, wincing.

“At least their vaunted leader, John Boehner, treats the House Republicans’ obstinance with the seriousness it deserves,” he said, cutting to a press conference with the House Speaker.

Asked if America would be less safe if Homeland Security funding dropped off, Boenher answered: “If ands or buts were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas.”

Stewart was caught off guard, but not as much as he would be after the subsequent question.

Another reporter asked if the House Republicans were going to vote on a clean DHS funding bill. Before he even finished his question, Boehner pursed his lips and began smooching the air.

Stewart, at this point, was awestruck. “This guy is droppin’ rhymes and making kissy-faces to the press!”
