Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Sunday said that House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) “killed” any chance of a bipartisan investigation by his panel into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“If we’re really going to get to the bottom of these things, it’s got to be done in a bipartisan fashion. And as far as I could tell, Congressman Nunes killed that,” McCain said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Nunes confirmed last week that he met on the White House grounds with a secret source a day before he went public with allegations that communications of members of President Donald Trump’s transition were picked up by incidental surveillance. He refused to disclose the identity of his source or the nature of their discussion, and did not provide his committee with any further information.

The New York Times and Washington Post reported by the end of the week that three White House officials had helped Nunes gain access to documents he said supported those claims.

McCain said that the investigation has unfolded in a “bizarre fashion.”

“This is why we need a select committee,” he said. “Every time we turn around another shoe drops from this centipede.”

  1. "“If we’re really going to get to the bottom of these things…”

And who in the Republican Party wants to get to the bottom of things, besides McCain? Graham? Maybe? Flake? Possibly. Sasse? Likely. Anyone else?

  2. Collins, probably. It doesn’t seem she has been as publicly vocal as Graham, but she is not in the kill-this-investigation camp either.

  3. Once again, if McCain, Sasse, Graham or Flake want to make a loud, and resounding statement right now, they will leave the republicans, and come over to the dems. that would make the senate 50/50. Until that happens, this is all just pointless noise and posturing.

  4. They keep watching polls (the base’s numbers). That’s for sure…
