Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) is selling his Washington, D.C. house to help pay for months of treatment for bipolar disorder, his chief of staff said on Wednesday.
Chief of staff Rick Bryant sent an email to media outlets on Wednesday afternoon after reports emerged that the congressman and his wife had put their house on the market for $2.5 million. Jackson has been on medical leave since June 10 and the timeline of his return to work remains unclear.

Like millions of Americans, Congressman Jackson and Mrs. Jackson are grappling with soaring healthcare costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations. The Congressman would like to personally thank everyone who has offered prayers on behalf of his family.
