The Illinois legislature on Sunday dropped plans to pass dual bans on assault weapons and high-powered ammunition in the lame duck session due to a lack of support, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Citing a lack of support, the House sponsor of bans on military-style weapons — dubbed “assault weapons” by critics — and the high-powered ammunition that feeds them decided Sunday not to call either measure for a vote in his chamber.
Supporters in the state senate also lacked sufficient support for the legislation. Tuesday is the last day of the lame duck session.
