In a Tuesday interview, Hillary Clinton said that she does not plan to accept Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto’s invitation to visit Mexico before the election in November.
When asked by ABC News‘ David Muir if she would take Peña Nieto up on the invitation, Clinton replied, “No.”
“We are permanently and productively in touch with @HillaryClinton’s campaign,” Mexican Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu tweeted in Spanish. “We understand and respect her decision to propose the time to have a meeting.”

Clinton characterized Trump’s visit to Mexico last week as “unfortunate” and said that the GOP candidate had created a “diplomatic incident,” highlighting the discrepancy between Trump and Peña Nieto’s accounts of their conversation.
“He came out saying one thing and the Mexican president contradicted him almost immediately,” Clinton said. “He didn’t know how to even communicate effectively with a head of state.”
Running mate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) agreed, saying that Trump had “already created kind of an international embarrassment.”
