She’s done it again.
Hillary Clinton is expected to win Pennsylvania’s Democratic primary Tuesday along with three other states; Maryland, Connecticut and Delaware. Sanders won Rhode Island Tuesday.
Clinton’s victories Tuesday catapults her into the final weeks of a primary race where a proportional primary process makes it almost impossible for Sanders to make up enough ground to stop her now.
Clinton’s success in Pennsylvania especially could prove valuable in a general election where Pennsylvania is seen as a swing state and site of a hotly contested Senate race that could help Democrats take back the Senate.
Clinton was long expected to preform well in Pennsylvania with polls showing her leading Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) by 10 points. Clinton has also earned high profile endorsements from former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell as well as Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA).
But, according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal, Clinton’s success in Pennsylvania had shifted from 2008 when she outperformed Obama with rural and white voters. Now, the Journal reported that Clinton’s support was coming more from urban, educated and minority voters.
In her victory speech Tuesday, Clinton appeared to pivot to the general election and try to appeal to Sanders’ supporters.
“I applaud Senator Sanders and his millions of supporters for challenging us to get unaccountable money out of our politics and giving greater emphasis to closing the gap of inequality. And I know together, we will get that done,” Clinton said.
That’s-a three.
thanx TPM! I thought Msnbc would update me on important news like this, but apparently Chuckles talking to a Kasich supporter is more important.
Not that I am defending having Todd on the air, because clearly that’s completely indefensible, but PA is being REALLY slow with their vote counting tonight. So calling it probably came as a bit of surprise to the producers.
They still haven’t called it yet, Davey.
ETA: I’m incredibly confused by this.
CNN has, although only 1% were reported when they did.
