Time Warner’s acclaimed cable channel HBO announced Thursday in Stockholm that four Scandinavian countries — Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden — will be getting the opportunity to pay for a Web-streaming only version of HBO beginning in “mid-October,” as Variety reported. The service will cost “less than 10 euros” monthly (or less than 12 U.S. dollars) for streaming-only, but is available as an add-on for grounded cable packages as well.

The move comes after several instances this summer when HBO repeatedly stated that offering a stand-alone streaming service in the U.S., where it currently offers streaming only through its HBO Go add-on for cable packages, would not make good business sense, despite a campaign by Twitter users called “#takemymoneyHBO.” HBO repeated much of this reasoning in its Scandinavian roll-out.
