Gingrich: Today’s GOP ‘Incapable Of Competing’ Against Hillary Clinton

December 9, 2012 9:41 am

Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich argued on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday that if Hillary Clinton runs for president in 2016, today’s GOP would be outmatched.

“If their competitor in ’16 is going to be Hillary Clinton, supported by Bill Clinton and presumably a still-relatively popular President Barack Obama, trying to win that will be truly the Super Bowl,” Gingrich said. “And the Republican Party today is incapable of competing at that level.”

Gingrich was also sure that Clinton would get the Democratic nomination if she decided to run even though, he joked, that’s what he thought in 2008 too.

“First of all, she is very formidable as a person and is a very confident person,” he said. “She is married to the most popular Democrat in the country. They both think it would be good for her to be president. That makes it virtually impossible to stop her for the nomination, I think.”
