Father of Aaron Swartz Blames Govt, MIT, In Son’s Suicide

The father of Aaron Swartz, the 26-year-old Internet entrepreneur and activist who took his own life last week, blamed the government and the Masscusetts Institute of Technology for roles in his son’s suicide during a speech at Aaron Swartz’s funeral service in suburban Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Times reported. As The Los Angeles Times reported:

Swartz was “killed by the government,” his father, Robert Swartz, said at the service at Central Avenue Synagogue in Highland Park, Ill., according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “He was killed by the government, and MIT betrayed all of its basic principles,” he said.

Swartz’s family released a statement on Saturday also implicating federal prosecutors and MIT in his suicide, saying “[d]ecisions made by officials in the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s office and at MIT contributed to his death.”
