Dem Group Hoping To Turn Texas Purple To Host First DC Fundraiser

Battleground Texas, a Democratic organization hoping to turn Texas into a swing state, is hosting its first Washington fundraiser in July, Politico reported Thursday.

The organization, which was launched by former Obama campaign officials, is asking for donations to attend the event starting at $50 per person and going up to $1,000 each for seats.

The fundraiser is being touted as “a great opportunity for folks in Washington to show Texans that they have their backs,” the organization’s senior adviser Jeremy Bird, who was Obama campaign’s former national field director, told Politico via email.

In 2012, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney beat President Obama in Texas by a substantial margin, 57 to 41 percent.
