In a campaign stop Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called the accusations made by Democrats that conservatives are anti-contraceptives “made-up nonsense,” according to The Hill.

“Last I checked, we don’t have a rubber shortage in America,” Cruz said, getting laughs. “When I was in college we had a machine in the bathroom, you put 50 cents in and voila!”

He argued that “anyone who wants contraceptives can access them” and that Democrats like Hillary Clinton only bring up the line of attack because they can’t run on the economy or Obamacare.

“So what do you do? You go, ‘Ah, ha! Condom police. I’m gonna make up a completely made up threat and try to scare a bunch of folks that are not paying a lot of attention into thinking someone’s going to steal their birth control,'” Cruz said.
