A majority of Americans believe marriage should be legal for same-sex couples, 53 percent to 44 percent, according to a new CNN/ORC poll released Monday. The poll was conducted by telephone March 15-17, with a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. Notably, the same question fielded nearly identical results during a poll taken in May of 2012, with 54% supporting gay marriage, and 42% opposed.
