Hillary Clinton addressed supporters Tuesday night after becoming the first woman to be the presumptive nominee of a major political party.

It may be hard to see tonight, but we are all standing under a glass ceiling right now,” she said.

Clinton spoke in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York City, where she hearkened back to the gathering of suffragettes at Seneca Falls and emphasized that the historic nature of the evening was about more than just her own presumptive nomination.

“Tonight’s victory is not about one person, it belongs to generations of women and men who struggled and sacrificed and made this moment possible,” Clinton said. “We all owe so much to those who came before and tonight belongs to all of you.”

Clinton also took time in her speech to praise her opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and acknowledge the “hard fought” campaigns they both waged.

“Let there be no mistake, Sen. Sanders, his campaign and the vigorous debate that we’ve had about how to raise income, reduce inequality, increase upward mobility, have been very good for the Democratic party and for America,” she said.
