New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Wednesday fired back at the former White House doctor who voiced concern about the effect his weight could have on his political future.

During an appearance on CNN earlier this week, former White House physician Connie Mariano said that, while she’d like the popular GOP governor to run for president, Christie will have to shed some pounds if he has aspirations for higher office.

“It’s almost like a time bomb waiting to happen unless he addresses those issues before he runs for office,” Mariano told CNN, saying she’s concerned Christie could suffer a heart attack or stroke.

Those remarks set off Christie’s famous temper.

“People who have a medical license, who have the privilege of having a medical license, should in my view conduct themselves more responsibly than that,” Christie said to reporters, according to CBSNewYork. “If she wants to get on a plane and come here to New Jersey and ask me if she wants to examine me and review my medical history, I’ll have a conversation with her about that. Until that time, she should shut up.”

He also called Mariano “just another hack who wants five minutes on TV.” On Monday, Christie spoke jokingly and candidly about his weight during an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”
