Christie Lovingly Praises ‘Born To Run’ After Dissing Springsteen

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) marked the 40th anniversary of the release of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” on Tuesday as “the most powerful rock album” of his lifetime — just weeks after he dissed the New Jersey rocker in an interview.

Christie has long been a superfan of “The Boss,” having reportedly attended 130 Springsteen concerts. But in comments last month, he said that he preferred another New Jersey rocker, Jon Bon Jovi.

Christie and his wife Mary Pat answered a series of either/or questions from conservative pundit Laura Ingraham. Among them, she asked, “Bruce Springsteen or Bon Jovi?”

Mary Pat asked for clarification: “Their music or their person?”

“No explanation,” Ingraham replied.

After a pause, the governor’s wife settled on Bon Jovi.

The governor agreed: “Bon Jovi.”

The governor tried to clarify earlier this month that he was trying to say which person he preferred as a friend, and it was not “an egregious flip flop.”

Christie reiterated his support for Springsteen on Tuesday with a tweet.

“The music was exciting, dramatic and exhilarating,” Christie wrote. “As a kid from Jersey it spoke to me. Bruce wrote of the places and people I knew. He wrote about our hopes and frustrations. He gave voice to the suburban kids like me who were filled with dreams and doubts. He was one of us.”

“It is my desert island disc,” Christie continued. “It is the most powerful rock album of my lifetime.”

  1. “It is my desert island disc,” Christie continued.

A desert island might be the only place that you could win an election about now, Chrispy. Why don’t you take your copy of “Born to Run” to one and give a go?

  2. Christie THINKS he was born to run.

  3. Does he not understand that the causes Springsteen advocates for today are the ones he would reject in forming an administration (as if), income equality, civil rights, opposition to the military-industrial complex, etc. Springsteen has the good sense to stay quiet on fanboy’s nonsense as does Bon Jovi also an Obama supporter.

  4. I couldn’t imagine if my #1 stiffie inducing idol disliked me and everything I stood for and everyone knew it.

    He deserves that and more.

  5. Christie has long been a superfan of “The Boss,” having reportedly attended 130 Springsteen concerts.

And yet he somehow failed to hear the message.
