A Chicago police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg on Wednesday when he went to get his firearm from from the weapons room at a courthouse in the city.
The police officer’s gun accidentally discharged when he went to go get the gun during an evacuation of the courthouse, according to The Chicago Tribune. The evacuation was because a smoke detector alarm went off in the courthouse’s law library.
The gun discharged when the police officer was taking the gun from a locker. The bullet hit the officer in the upper leg. His injury was non-life threatening.
Having had only the most fleeting experience with weapons, I nonetheless cannot conceive how this could happen.
You mean Negligent Discharge not “accidental” discharge.
It’s simple. He didn’t have a good leg with a gun to defend him.
Where was the Good Guy With a Gun - when you really need him to prevent this???
This is someone who is supposed to be well trained and familiar with the handling of firearms.
Now think about the bullshit that Wayne LaPierre and the NRA have been shoveling; ‘The Only Thing That Stops A Bad Guy With A Gun Is A Good Guy With A Gun’.
Like most things that the NRA suggests, it is a recipe for a clusterfuck.
