House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) went after President Obama in an op-ed in Wednesday’s Wall Street Journal, arguing that the looming automatic spending cuts are a “product of the President’s own failed leadership.”
Boehner wrote that the sequester is the wrong way to reduce the deficit and called on Obama to do something about it. “So, as the President’s outrage about the sequester grows in coming days, Republicans have a simple response: Mr. President, we agree that your sequester is bad policy. What spending are you willing to cut to replace it?”
Obama detailed the negative consequences of the sequester at the White House Tuesday. On Wednesday, he is scheduled to give interviews to local news networks in an effort to continue to pressure Republicans to avoid the cuts.
