The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports:

A group of influential Republicans headed by former Sen. John Danforth and fundraising dynamo Sam Fox are pressing state auditor Tom Schweich to join the already crowded primary contest for Missouri’s GOP nomination for the Senate.

In an open letter to Schweich, 18 prominent figures in GOP affairs over the years asked him to become a candidate and “fill the void” in the debate about the nation’s future this election year.

There is in fact already a crowded primary of Republicans hoping to face incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill: Congressman Todd Akin, former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, and businessman John Brunner. Thus, the letter would seem to demonstrate a lack of confidence from at least some GOP quarters.
