Artie Lange, a comedian formerly associated with Howard Stern, found himself facing criticism and cancelations this week after posting a series of tweets describing a racist sexual fantasy about ESPN host Cari Champion.

Lange posted the tweets on Tuesday and was met with swift reaction. In some of the posts, Lange, who is white, wrote as if he was Thomas Jefferson, and Champion, who is black and the host of “First Take,” was one of his slaves.

Lange’s NSFW tweets were still online as of Thursday afternoon. Be warned, they are very graphic:

According to Sports Illustrated, ESPN responded to the sexually graphic tweets in a Wednesday statement:

His comments were reprehensible and no one should be subjected to such hateful language. They objectify and demean one of our valued employees under the thin guise of ‘comedy’ and are offensive to all of us. We will not dignify them with any other comment.

TMZ reported on Wednesday that the sports network had banned Lange from making future appearances.

Lange also said the Comedy Central show “@Midnight” had canceled him.

Lange eventually offered something of an apology to Champion via Twitter, saying that if his tweets “hurt u in any way I’m sorry.” However, it was soon followed by this tweet:

  1. Calling Artie Lange a comedian is like calling a cat a tree.

  2. “Howard Stern” says it all.

  3. The only two things I know about Arte Lange is that he loves cupcakes and survived a half-hearted suicide attempt. Oh, and three: he’s not funny.

We thought humor like that was hilarious – when we were about 14 years old.

  5. Vintage Artie Lange! Harkens back to his days on MAD-TV, I’m surprised he didn’t tell the lady to “break her foot off in his a$$,” a reference to his “That’s My White Momma” bit. He probably should have kept his fantasies to himself, rather than tweeting them all over the place, which is rather stupid this day in age. You can be guaranteed some people will not see the humor and the PC police will be all over you. Still five minutes of attention, even if negative attention is still attention. Which matters to performers, no matter who they are.
