Rep. Don Young (R-AK) crossed party lines to support a Democratic Senate candidate: Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, a state where Young’s own party has a high-profile recruit, former Gov. Linda Lingle.
Hirono is in a competitive primary with former Rep. Ed Case, to be held Aug. 11.
The delegations from the two non-contiguous states often work together. In 2008, Sen. Daniel Inouye, a Hawaii Democrat, helped fundraise for Sen. Ted Stevens, an Alaska Republican who ultimately lost.
