After losing in U.S. district court, the Trump administration is preparing to pursue criminal subpoenas for state and local officials in California in its effort to fabricate an illegal voting scandal, according to Bloomberg.
A federal judge quickly shot down the administration’s attempt to sequester over 20,000 ballots in Los Angeles county on hazy allegations of noncitizen voting — so the administration changed tactics. It is now, per Bloomberg reporting, planning to weaponize the DOJ against election officials.
It’s an escalation from the initial volley of election interference, when the administration was (unsuccessfully, so far) trying to bully states into separating “alleged noncitizen” ballots for inspection. The Washington secretary of state yesterday brushed off that demand with a scathing statement, writing that even a preliminary look at the list revealed many U.S. citizens.
