America, we have your next full-fledged media circus.
A day after Herman Cain’s chief of staff, Mark Block, declared the sexual harassment scandal dogging Cain “done,” Cain’s campaign (and/or some security guards) just kicked the Cain story into high gear.
This from the New York Times, which was among the press staking out a Cain appearance in Alexandria, VA Wednesday:
Cain arrived at a Hilton hotel in suburban Virginia on Wednesday morning for what was advertised to the news media as a meeting on health care reform, which was to be followed by a news conference. But he immediately disappeared into what organizers of the meeting, Docs4PatientCare, called a “closed-door session.” Upon emerging, a mob of hotel security and other campaign personnel pushed back against the assembled photographers, and a little bit of a scrum and tussle ensued, with at least one newspaper photographer taking a hard blow to the face.
In case the Cain camp needs reminding, hitting reporters in the face does not make your bad headlines go away. Just ask Michele Bachmann.
This seems to be the start of a new phase of the Cain saga, one where Cain decides to stop answering questions. That leads to embarrassing videos like this one, recorded at the same event the Times described:
