In the wake of Indiana Republican Senate nominee Richard Mourdock’s comments this week about rape and pregnancy, Jon Stewart showed yet another installment of the “surprisingly recurring” series, “Republican Candidate Said What About Rape Now?”
Mourdock said during a debate on Tuesday that pregnancies from rape are part of God’s will. In an ad released ahead of the debate, Mitt Romney threw his support behind the Indiana Republican. Romney’s campaign condemned the comments, but has yet to pull its endorsement.
“Where does Mourdock get his crazy, fringe ideas about rape and abortion anyway?” Perhaps Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan, Stewart said. “… according to the Republican Party platform, and the man who wants to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, if a woman wants to have a baby, in vitro fertilization, she cannot. Rape, she has to.”
