Girl Scouts open new troop at gay pride center in Salt Lake City, say they’ll welcome transgender youth and children from LGBT families.
A couple days ago I mentioned that the seeming unstoppability of Hillary Clinton’s pursuit of the Democratic presidential nomination has created an odd dynamic in which the contests and questions usually hashed out in a campaign between rival candidates are now being played out within and around her candidacy.
Here’s another small example.
With all the storm and controversy and still uncertain fate of Obamacare, I found this chart which helps visualize the actual big picture effects of the law.
The chart shows trends in the percentage of Americans with health insurance from the introduction of the Medicare and Medicaid through the roll out of Obamacare. The chart is from a speech by Jason Furman, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors.
In an era in which virtually no new laws get passed and signed by the president – certainly not major new pieces of social insurance legislation – President Obama is about to sign the most far-reaching health care reform bill since Obamacare. And yet, there’s barely a peep about it.
Pope Francis has unexpectedly cut short an “overhaul” of a major US nun group which his predecessor had begun in 2012 because the group promoted “certain radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith.”
Reacting to a rise of sluttiness among Kansas poors, Governor Brownback signs law barring families on public assistance from buying lingerie, tattoos.
Remember that 73 year old volunteer hobby sheriff who accidentally shot and killed an arrestee in Oklahoma when he thought he was pulling out his taser? Well, turns it the Sheriff’s department seems to have falsified his training records. Ooops.
Ted Cruz is really explicit that voters need guns in case they need to use them against police, federal law enforcement or other government officials.
It’s not an uncommon argument among gun rights enthusiasts. But national politicians and certainly presidential candidates seldom get so pointed and specific about arguing that the key importance of the 2nd Amendment is to have guns to shoot government officials if you decide they are creating a tyranny. What Sharron Angle once called “second amendment remedies“. But Ted Cruz is going there big time in a new fundraising email. Check it out.
In a sense, this is totally Cruz’s MO. I suspect it’s precisely because few mainstream politicians are willing to state the matter so starkly that he and his advisors see a big advantage of being the one who will.
Neo-Nazi admits he shot and killed his boss, who is gay, and says he hates gays “with a passion.” Also says he’s killed others.
This could be a problem. A new poll – and it’s the marquee poll in the state – shows Gov Scott Walker with his lowest job approval number in three years and dropping 8 points since late last year. Worse Hillary beats him in his home state by 12 points.
