The House just voted down the GOP-version of the Violence Against Women Act. Next up, the Senate version which is expected to pass without support from a majority of Republicans, in violation of the Hastert rule. After that, it goes to the President’s desk for signature.

The Coahoma County Sheriffs department has charged 22 year old Lawrence Reed with the murder of Marco McMillian, a candidate for Mayor of Clarksdale, Mississippi. McMillian was the first openly gay candidate for public office in the state’s history. Authorities did not comment on a motive for the crime.
