The antis in the Senate seem to be firming up their numbers, putting the compromise background check bill in jeopardy.

Taking Stock

We don’t know definitively. There are still various loose ends and stories that aren’t totally nailed down. But after a day of reports it now seems possible and actually quite probable that there were only two explosive devices today: the two reported from the start right near the finish line of the marathon.

Authorities appear to have backed off earlier claims about an explosion at the JFK Library and reports that other explosive devices were found in the vicinity of the initial blasts. Again, not definitive. But that’s the surest information that we have at this point.

That Older Man Knocked Down in the Photo

You’ve probably seen this now iconic photo of three Boston police officers and a man knocked down by the blast just after the bombs went off. As noted earlier, the man in question, 78-year-old Bill Iffrig of Lake Stevens, Washington, was a bit bruised but otherwise unharmed.

Search at Home in Revere, Mass

Local TV news in Boston is reporting that a home in Revere, Mass is currently being searched by federal and local authorities. The local Fox affiliate reports that an unnamed law enforcement source says the search is tied to the Marathon bombing.

Remember, we may see many of these that do not pan out. What seems clear is that a home is being searched at this moment as part of the bombing investigation. But we shouldn’t assume more than that. We’ll bring you more information as we get it.

AP reports bombing related search underway at apartment in Revere, Mass.

Police Leave Revere Apartment

From Teresa Hanafin of the Globe: “The police, FBI, and ATF officials who were gathered at an apartment building in Revere have left the scene without talking to reporters.”

This report from Hanafin is quite terse. But it seems to supersede the various reports about a raid or search in Revere.

One of the three dead in yesterday’s attack was 8 year old, Martin Richard, whose father was running in the marathon.
