Cruz pre-negotiated terms of his fake filibuster with Reid.

The most recent analog to what Ted Cruz is doing on the Senate floor was the nearly nine-hour floor speech Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) gave in December 2010 to protest the extension of the Bush tax cuts. That wasn’t a filibuster either — notwithstanding the title of the subsequent book version of Sanders’ speech.

In another sign of the tangled procedural web Ted Cruz found himself in, he just voted for cloture on the continuing resolution that he spent all night faux-filibustering.
It’s not completely illogical.
By voting for cloture, Cruz is saying he wants debate to begin on the resolution, which he supports in its current form. But he’ll oppose ending debate when that vote comes up later this week because once debate ends, Democrats in the Senate will strip the bill of the defund Obamacare provision and bring it to a final vote.
Got it? Like a GOP aide told us the other day, if you’re explaining in politics, you’re losing.
