Stepping aside from the politics of the matter and the atmospherics of this story, to me it seems delusional to assume that the Democrats could have pulled back from the effort and come back later and gotten bits and pieces of reform. How much do you figure will get through Congress if the whole thing is struck down by the Supreme Court? You can’t choke at the gut check moments.

The Final Countdown
