More from Jeb

In Jeb Bush’s appearance this morning with BloombergView, he didn’t just depart on Reagan orthodoxy and earn the scorn of Grover Norquist. He also went out of his way to praise the 1990 budget deal which his father, George H.W.Bush struck with Democrats 22 years ago. That involved a tax increase and for those too young to remember is considered one of the ur-sacrileges on the anti-tax right.

Sure, President Bush is his dad so you wouldn’t expect him to be railing against it. But he went out of his way to praise it as a great act of statesmanship.

In one sense I think the question’s easy to answer. But I also think it’s a surface manifestation of a deeper fight between the parties, and that the real answer’s about much, much more than near-term politics. Read More

Remember Him?

Remember the gay soldier booed at that GOP debate last year? Now he’s campaigning against DOMA. “It literally takes away rights from soldiers. For me not to be able to go home and bury him is crazy,” says Army Captain Stephen Hill.

We Need Your Help

Just a reminder. Tomorrow we’re running our annual TPM Reader Survey; this is the sixth year we’re doing it. It takes a few minutes to fill it out. But it’s very important. TPM is funded by our ad sales program. And we need to collect data on who reads TPM. Again, we do not collect or share any personally identifiable information. This is only aggregate data. And a few minutes of your time helps keep TPM vital, healthy and growing.

Again, please accept our appreciation in advance. And if you have any questions, please let us know at the comments email line to the upper right.
