McCain Still At It

John McCain, today on MSNBC: “Frankly, I don’t understand why the president wants to take these kind of cheap shots – bayonets and horses, what’s that all about? You know, when I debated then-Senator Obama I didn’t criticize or belittle his lack of experience on national security issues. And he seemed to take these kind of cheap shots. … I kind of resent it.”

John McCain, during the first presidential debate, on Sept. 26, 2008, at Ole Miss: “I’ve been involved, as I mentioned to you before, in virtually every major national security challenge we’ve faced in the last 20-some years. There are some advantages to experience, and knowledge, and judgment. And I — and I honestly don’t believe that Senator Obama has the knowledge or experience and has made the wrong judgments in a number of areas …”

Romney’s Gut Check Moment

We don’t know yet what’s going to happen in Ohio, but if Barack Obama pulls it out (most polls now show a razor-thin but abiding margin) it will almost certainly be because of the auto bailout. The hard choice President Obama made and the political expedient option chosen by Mitt Romney.

As so often happens in a presidential race, the issue has been beaten down into contending catchphrases. But the real decision, the real difference is about as clear today as it was almost four years ago. Read More
